Freedom Trail

I had a low-key Fourth of July: slept in, ran 5 miles, went to a brewery with Aaron and a friend, followed that up with a couple of other bars, and then went to bed.

Kate and I at the Lockview.
No fireworks, no barbecues and sadly no trail run. That's the bummer. The weather was iffy, and our running friends had other plans and/or weren't interested in a longer trail run. So we checked out the Freedom Trail, which is a newer portion of the Summit County Bike & Hike trail. (We skipped a longer run too.) Essentially we can run (or bike, of course) from our neighborhood to the Portage County line via this nicely paved trail. This just might be the encouragement we need to get our bikes back on the road! Where the trail ends, it'll take us about 2 miles via back roads to get to downtown Kent.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of riding back in the dark so our first excursion will definitely be in the daytime.

What's also cool is that Summit County has plans to extend the trail to downtown Akron, which will essentially hook up our neighborhood to the Towpath. Since we will apparently never get out of Akron, at least we have this to look forward to.
